Revolut is a financial superapp that offering money transfers and exchange, buy and sell crypto, commodities and shares. Revolut also has retail, business and junior consumer products.

Problem. Origin

Revolut is a fast-growing company and like many startups, that built successful and profitable businesses, they become bigger and use old processes that they used when they were a small startup. As a result, these processes are not working for big companies and we need a new one.

Problem validation

When I joined Revolut, I saw a lot of symptoms that the product design process and product process overall are not performing well. I’ve set a few calls with other design leads to clarify this topic and got proof that the current product design process is not good and needs improvement.

All teams and all departments across Revolut are different. They have different purposes, life-circle iteration processes and deliverable increments. That means that I can not copy and paste with small adjustments a process from other teams.

We need brand new product design process, because products for retail and internal needs are different and have different:

Alignment & clarification

I collected and described in detail the problem, the impact and the outcome that I want to get and discuss this with the head of my department. We came up with an agreement that we need to deliver this in the current quarter (Q1 2022) and start the next quarter with a standard product design workflow.
